Located in the heart of Northern Michigan, Louie’s Fresh Market is the continuation of a long line of family businesses. It all began, in 1849, when Jeremiah Douville arrived in the area around Alpena, Michigan; and, at the age of 15 began work as a cook in John Nicholson’s lumber camp. It was in Alpena, where Jeremiah would later meet and marry his wife, Odele. It wasn’t long before Jeremiah and Odele started their own business, opening the Douville Bakery; which, was later known as Douville & Son after the birth of their son, Louie. Louie carried on the family tradition, continuing to run the bakery while opening up a wholesale grocery business of his own, 80 years ago. Louie’s legacy and business lives on, today, as Great North Foods. As the fourth generation of this line of family owned and operated businesses, we are proud to say that it is in this spirit, that Louie’s Fresh Market was started, in 2003, and continues today.

When visiting Louie’s Fresh Market, you will be met by a friendly, knowledgeable and approachable staff, working closely with local dealers and distributors to provide only the freshest and highest quality products, at fair, everyday low prices. From our Deli and Butcher Shop, stocked daily with freshly prepared and delivered meats and cheeses, to our bright, freshly stocked produce department, and our selection of everyday grocery items, you will find everything to meet the needs of you and your family, and more!
